Final
VMFA Artist: Robert Longo
Historical Context Piece
The artist I chose, Robert Longo, created art mainly in the 80's, during the Space Race. He usually referenced popular media at the time, along with politics, and used mixed media. My piece references the popular 1980's film The Breakfast Club, to show how the U.S. and Russia were dancing/racing to the moon during the Space Race.

I guess my third choice would be sculpture (but not really, I don't have a third choice I just had to pick something for this blog), and I did not know where the sculpture department was, so I just walked around Bowe St, because since there's a wood shop there, that must mean some of the sculpture department has to be there. I did not get to talk with many people about sculpture, I just watched a couple of the woodshop guys cut wood. I really am not very interested in sculpture so I did not have many questions, I just know VCU is one of the top sculpture schools in America. This is a photo I took of people working on their space projects.
Another one of my top choices for a major goes along with animation, and it is film. I really just would like to be an animator, so it is difficult to choose another major, but film goes along with animation. I sat in on a Film Studies class, and it was strange. It was a huge lecture class, and all the students in the class were constantly raising their hands and making observations about films using big words to impress the teacher. They were all suckups and it made me dislike some of these kids. We discussed two films, Hiroshima Mon Amor, and The Best Years of Our Lives. These are old films we watched clips of and made observations. My top choice major is definitely Kinetic Imaging. I love animation and it is what I really want to do. I went to the KI department in the Franklin Terrace building and met a few KI students. They were mostly all busy at work on their computers, but I was able to talk to a couple of them. They say that they love the KI department, and as long as I have good KI work, I will be able to get into the department. That made me really excited. I didn't do much else in the class, just drew a picture messing with the equipment offered on the computers there.
